My Journey

“Growth can be painful; change can be painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.”

C.H. Spurgeon.

My name is David and I have been married for 28 years. My wife and I have three kids and a child that we foster.

It was during my son’s secondary education that I noticed his study books on psychology. This ignited a desire within me to understand what it means to be human and why is it that we struggle at times with our thoughts, behaviours and intense feelings.

Following on from this desire I decided to start with the Open University and enrolled on a course, ‘psychology with counselling’. After four years and nearing the completion of a Bsc in psychology, I decided to undergo training to become a counsellor. I was a window cleaner at this point and loved talking to people and being curious about the varied experiences of my customers.

After another 4 years of study I finally finished my qualification and have found myself happily where I belong within the counselling community.

Over the last decade I have volunteered for different organisations to develop my empathy, knowledge and skills. I have been a mentor for MCR at a local secondary school; worked with SHOUT, a text crisis helpline and supported clients through bereavement with Cruse (Scotland) for over 5yrs.
